1 Ticket Please

For some odd reason the idea of going to a movie alone used to freak me out.  While I still hate dining in restaurants alone (it was the part of business travel I hated the most), I have conquered the solo movie thing and I'm so glad I have.

It was one of those "Mommy is losing her mind for no apparent reason and desperately needs to get out of the house by herself before she has a total meltdown" kind of days.  Fortunately, PB was working from home, sensed I needed a break and sent me out for the evening.   So I hunkered down in a darkened movie theater to watch a perfectly brainless chick flick whose title will never be uttered in the same sentence as Oscar.

One hour and forty minutes later I emerged from the theater a much more relaxed and family friendly woman.

Meanwhile, PB and the kids ate pizza and watched "Star Wars" (that's the second time in less than a week if you're keeping score).  Everybody wins!

I don't go to a lot of movies by myself, mostly because there are so few movies I want to see and the ones I DO want to see I'd rather watch on a date night with my husband.  However, there are days when that little window of time alone with my brain turned off is a wonderful retreat.

I have friends that have told me they've wanted to go to a movie by themselves, but could never actually bring themselves to do it.  Take it from me, try it.  It's a tremendously liberating experience and you don't have to share your popcorn!

I am excited! a brain blog! :)
I want to go to a movie by myself, but so can't bring myself to do it! Someday I will do it, and I am sure I will love every second.
