My sister and my friend (basically another sister) decided to plan a bunch of outings to keep us from losing our minds this summer. The two basic criteria for these outings were that they had to be free or very cheap and there had to be easy access to either water or air conditioning.
So one day we had the brilliant idea to take the kids (that's my dad with them in the picture) to the local indoor skateboard park. It was great because you can't beat free and cool on a hot summer day. And the kids loved it. I was so proud of us and our creative idea for entertainment.
At first.
Those kids were mesmerized by the skateboarders and their insane moves. Our children are adrenaline junkies. They come up with enough crazy ideas on their own without having their mothers hold their hands and say, "Look at those boys and girls flying down that ramp on a little piece of board attached to wheels. See how fast they're going? Doesn't that look like fun? Wouldn't you like to fly up in the air and crash to the ground like that?"
My son has already had one broken arm. At least I'll be able to look at this picture and enjoy the memory of a fun summer day when we're sitting in the E.R. getting the next one patched up...

Hi there,
My name is Steph and I can gather that you are Lisa's sister! Just wanted to say hi and that this post was hilarious!
Thanks for stopping by Steph! I bet we've met at CCOTL sometime.
as a mom of two 16 yr old adrenaline junkies... my stomach still clinches up. And this coming from someone who has had quite a few experiences herself... but it's different when it's your kids!!
Hi there,
This was a great idea for a trip. Not sure if there is one here, but I know it would fascinate our kids (and terrify me!)
Oh my kids would LOVE this. My daughter has mastered the evil RipStick and thinks she is invincible! Thanks for shairng!
I am all about the water or air conditioning in the summer!! Glad you had fun on your outings.
Oh, no!!!! ER visits are no fun.
On to other news -- your "in sickness and in health" comment had me and the husband rolling with laughter! Thanks for that!
Free and cool on a hot day...sounded like it would be a great idea. This was a fun read.
