Happy 6th Birthday Doc Brown!

My dearest boy,

Are you really six years old today?  How did that happen?  Wasn't it just yesterday that I was holding you in my arms, crying as I held you for the first time?  I remember the day of your delivery, every bit of it.  The joy, excitement, anxiety and yes pain (quite a bit in fact) and I recall my first words to you.  Do you remember them?  You might not have been paying attention at the time so I'll remind you: "You're worth it."

How little did I know how "worth it" you would be.  From your gentle heart to your boundless curiosity you have been one of the greatest joys of my life.  You challenge me with your thirst for knowledge and move me to tears with your tenderness.  And have I mentioned your hugs?  That whole pat-Mommy-on-the-back-when-I-hug-her bit had better not go away.  Between you and me that's my kryponite and it'll get you out of just about anything.

I know you have to grow up, you remind me every time I ask you not to turn six.  Since you must grow up, would you do me this favor?  Stay on track with who you are.  You're on such a great course right now: curious, sensitive and helpful and open to the things of God.  All these attributes are gifts from above that left in the Father's hands will bear much beauty.

Your dad and I chose Micah 6:8 for your dedication verse:

He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
And  to walk humbly with your God.

As much as I bemoan the fact that you're growing up, I look forward to seeing the man you will become.  God has created in you such a package of special gifts and if you let Him guide you, I know you will become the kind of upright man the prophet described.  And in the meantime my Star Wars loving, lego building, sister teasing, what's this thing do boy, your father and I will treasure you for who you are.

I love you my precious boy.  All the time.

Perfectly stated.

I love my precious grandson more than he'll ever know. He has made me so happy. I thank God for sending him to us.

And the fact that he shares my name is an honor.

I love you Jason Michael.

I LOVE that verse too. I "discovered it" last year when studying the OT minor prophets. It's so beautiful. Happy Birthday Jason! Walk humbly with your God.
