Poor Peppermint Patty... and Franklin and Marcie and Linus

One of the many reasons I love this time of year is that we get to watch holiday movies.  Last night we watched "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" because it's just not Thanksgiving until you watch a pilgrim costume clad Snoopy carrying a cork gun and Peppermint Patty coming unhinged over being served popcorn for dinner.

I was raised on the Charlie Brown (and Rankin/Bass) movies and I'm thrilled to share them with my kids, but parenthood has altered my perception of portions of the movies.  Here's what strikes me about "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving"...

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that the parents of Peppermint Patty, Franklin, Marcie and even Linus are so eager to ship their kids off to someone else's house on Thanksgiving??!!  And why does Linus show up without Lucy?  Do his parents prefer Lucy's company over Linus? ('cuz I would have gone the other way on that one)

I still love the movie, but now I want to give those pumpkin headed children a big hug every time we watch it.  After Thursday we'll start watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

Because no one recites the Gospel of Luke as well as Linus.

With this in mind, have you changed your views on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer?

I always wondered that as a kid. And where was Charlie Brown's mom--while all this was happening?

Those Charlie Brown movies really stir up some very real emotions for me! Take the Great Pumpkin for instance, poor Charlie Brown! Seriously, those cartoons make me feel depressed. I just want to pluck Charlie Brown right off the screen and bring him home to live with us. Just sayin'...

First-It's a little disturbing that you've given this much thought to a cartoon :-).
Second, I might have to borrow the Charlie Brown Chirstmas if you'll let us. Sadly, my kids have NEVER seen it. Really. We went to Doug's show at Sea World, and they sang the Christmas Time is Here song, and I leaned over and said, "It's the song from Charlie Brown," and all I got was blank stares. I think I just failed Mom 101.

I'd be happy to share it with you... QUICKLY:) My kids are on the other end of the spectrum. They're a little bit addicted to it!
