Because I'm not smart enough to be on Jeopardy

When I was a little girl the only daytime television I was allowed to watch was the Price is Right which my mom and I would watch together while I ate lunch (tomato soup with crackers). Occasionally we would watch a little Perry Mason and now that I'm a mom I think it's safe to say those were the days my mom needed an extra break.

Just a guess.

Anyway, my daily lunch dates with Bob Barker during those formative years planted the seed of a dream yet unrealized:

I really, really, really want to be on a game show.

Not a quiz show, mind you.

Because that would be humiliating.

A game show.

Of course, I'd love to be on The Price is Right. Plinko would be a dream come true or the Cliff Hanger game would be cool (because the yodeling tune is so catchy), but with my luck I'd be stuck with Hole in One which would be a disaster.

I think Wheel of Fortune would be fun, but I don't think I would fare too well since I'd just spazz out under the pressure.

But the show I'd really love to be on is this:

I'm not sure if it's the matching sweatshirts, the giant hams or the chance to run around an empty grocery store, but I have to say that my dream of being on Supermarket Sweep is my deepest, darkest secret. And now I'm sharing it with you.

Don't judge me.

I really do think we are kindred spirits. My love affair with Supermarket Sweep began in 1995 when my son was in the Bone Marrow Unit. It was such a crazy break in a crazier life. He would giggle at me like nobody's business while I maniacally yelled, "Go to the baby formula & diapers!" I haven't seen it in years, but what a riot--literally. I would so be your partner. Thanks for sharing your secret.

In 1967 my mom won a real supermarket sweep from the pepsi company. She was given 5 minutes to get as much as she could. She worked it out with the meat department that they would line the meat up on their arms and my mom would scoop it up from them...she didn't get to use a basket. She brought home over $400 worth of meat...that's a whole lot in 1967!!!

As usual you are so funny! I used to be a game show junkie as a kid. I faithfully watched Price is Right and played along with the Showcase Showdown. I also watched Family Fued and some card ones, Let's Make a Deal, and I don't remember what else. I was a big ol' couch potato! Anyway, I haven't seen Supermarket Sweep but it sounds fun. Good luck with your dream.
