No pickles, candy or cake... just muck

A couple of weeks ago I order some caterpillars so we could watch them transform into butterflies.  I'm not sure what I was expecting exactly, but I wasn't expecting this:

Kinda nasty, no?  The caterpillars were eerily still when I opened the box but most of them are now moving (slowly) around their container.

Doc and Obi Wan-da were in observation mode when they asked what kind of butterflies they would become.  When I responded "Painted Lady" Doc asked me what a "painted boy" butterfly would look like.

I'm guessing the painted boys use a light saber to bust out of their cocoon.

We'll find out in a few weeks.

It's been a few years since we did this but I don't remember the muck... and it seems I would! I do remember the butterflies though. I think it enjoyed it better than the kids did.

Isn't that the way with most things we do for the kids?

You will be shocked at how fast those babies grow eating that muck! They will be twice their size within days. It's crazy!
You crack me up--painted boys busting out with light sabers!
