Meet the Babettes

Babette is not a person.  She's a blanket.  Specifically, she's a blanket that you crochet using modified granny squares.  And she's beautiful.  Take a look at this.

She has a bit of a cult following.  Just type Babette blanket in your search engine and see the gorgeous blankets people are making using this pattern.  Amazing.  Inspiring.

So inspirational, in fact, that I've decided to make not one, but TWO Babettes for my children. You see, I have a teensy weensy problem with being overly ambitious.

And crazy.

I'm working on it.

In the meantime I've got two very unfinished blankets mocking me every time I look at my yarn stash. I've decided to use the Olympics as a chance to make some progress on them since it will give me something productive to do while I watch an obscene amount of television over the next two weeks.  (We're Olympic junkies in this house.)

So here's where I'm at on the blankets as of this morning (and yes, my fiber friends, I know the squares need to be blocked):

Clearly, I'm not very far along on either one of them.  I plan to have them ready for the kids to take to college.  Once the Olympics are over I'm going to let the Babettes get back to mocking me while I make myself a wrap.

Oooooh, I like Babette. I feel a series of Titus Two nights coming on. Of course, it will have to be NOT on a Friday night so we don't interrupt the whole "pizza and movie" thing.

these are gorgeous! but I refuse to think I could possibly learn to crochet again (for the 6th time in 20 years) just to do this beautiful pattern... I have enough of a fabric stash to keep me busy for years! I'm not gonna even think about it... nope... I'm not... uh-uh...
