Have I mentioned that we're still doing school?

When I started this blog I figured it would be all homeschool all the time, but it turns out I've had lots of other things to blabber about like my dog's skin issues (fascinating, I know). However, there is still some book learning going on at the Tree Climbing Academy and here's some proof:

(Have I mentioned that my camera works much better outdoors?  I'm just putting that out there because I don't want you to worry that my poor home educated children are pasty white from sitting inside all day.  They're not because they don't - it's the camera's fault.)

Anyway, here's our first attempt at a successful science experiment.  It's the old bean seed in a jar experiment that allows you to watch the sprouting and growing process.  Doc Brown has his notebook so he can draw his observations each day.  This will require a lot of discipline on my part to remember that we're supposed actually observe it every day.

I kind of dread the hands on aspect of homeschooling.  I'm sure it's a sign of laziness or something, but I just don't have a lot of patience for it and I get much more excited about read aloud time because it's a chance to snuggle up on the couch with a good book.  But the kids really enjoy it so maybe their enthusiasm will rub off on me.

The best part of the experiment for me is crossing it off my list.  After a week of catching up we are now officially back on track and ready to start fresh next week.  I'm really excited because we're going to start reading "The Apple and the Arrow" which is the story of William Tell.

Am I crazy because I want to try an activity that involves a bow and arrow?

Activities with a bow and arrow? Sounds good!

It was really fascinating to see how the beans grew while working on Discover & Do. I enjoyed it. Hope your beans grow really well!

I am sooo right with you. My girls are ridiculously good readers since I am but I don't think they've EVER looked through a microscope. The only experiments they do is with outdated kitchen items found in the back of the fridge. 'Ewwww Mom, what's THAT?" "That my dears, is moldis Americanus"...
But give me Huck Finn anyday...

I like some hands on stuff... but in the craft department! But with two boys, we did a few things in the science department. But bows and arrows? definitely! the boys would take twine and "fashion" bows and arrows... it was great, kept them outside and occupied for hours (and I have to admit I'd even give advice)! Some were pretty good actually. With 2 boys the same age, "weapons" were a given around our house!
