Thank You List Saturday - Earnest Counsel

Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.  Proverbs 27:9

Between PB, family and friends, I am surrounded by people who offer earnest counsel.  There's a big difference between opinionated instruction and sage advice... I know because I've experienced both.

At best intrusive opinions are annoying and at worst they bind you to a burden that was never yours to begin with.

But wise counsel is rooted in love and free from judgement.

Whether it's a word of encouragement, a practical tip or a gentle rebuke, earnest council is offered in hopes of bringing order or restoration.  I've been in desperate need of both lately and I'm so thankful for the people God used to to meet that need.

Who's giving you earnest counsel today?

Husband is my greatest source of earnest counsel and encouragement. A friend was singing the praises of her husband the other day and made the statement, "I know God gave him to me, because I wasn't smart enough to choose him."

I sat and nodded my head in agreement to my own memories of how God gifted me with Husband.

great description. Part of the problem of that "opinionated instruction" is a control factor that can be sticky (or stinky) in some situations.
